Disinfection in a Flash! How Xenon Pulsed Lighting for Disinfection Works
The COVID-19 pandemic has contributed to a sharp rise in awareness concerning disease-causing bacteria, viruses and other microorganisms. As our knowledge grows so does the need for reliable and safe methods to quickly destroy pathogens of all types, which has brought attention to xenon pulsed lighting!
While Amglo manufactures xenon lamps for aircraft lighting, cosmetic applications like hair removal and other purposes, these flashlamps also have the power to decontaminate all types of environments. One challenge concerning disinfection is being able to obliterate viral and bacterial pathogens without the use of harsh chemicals or toxic substances. Hence, why xenon pulsed lamps are such an innovative solution for disinfection because they don’t have these harmful characteristics and kill pathogens fast.
Here is how it works:
The xenon flash lamp emits a high energy pulsed light (HIPL) that includes all wavelengths from deep UV to the upper range of visible light. The frequency of the flash and energy of each flash delivers instant kill. HIPL has an advantage over other disinfection lighting methods that may leave pathogens dormant, but still able to reproduce.
Here is how it can be used:
The lamps can be housed on robots that roam rooms and hallways to remove pathogens from surfaces and can also be installed in HVAC systems to scrub the air. Additionally, we’re continuing to test xenon light devices on surfaces, in water and in the air.
Xenon pulsed lighting is growing in popularity, making buildings, products and foods safer for everyone.
